Description
A real highlight of Casa Colina Roja is the backyard with its 26-foot pool and separate jacuzzi. The pool is heated by solar panels so it is a lovely temperature year round.
However, it also has gas heating for when you’d just like a little boost in the temp. There's a deep end for treading water and a shallow end with underwater benches for just hanging out with a cold beverage—the kitchen is stocked with West End outdoor glasses and tableware for your poolside enjoyment!
Because the property was just completed in April 2025, the garden is in its infancy. It’s planted with olive, mandarin, lemon, lime, mango and orange trees, ready to grow toward the sky. Soon it will be a lush haven for relaxation as the lavender, Mexican sage, moros and feather grass do their thing, blooming in the multiple beds surrounding the pool.
This luxury home has been designed with you in mind: its common spaces are grand, open, and bright. The KITCHEN is well stocked for the most ardent chef, with service for 12. Amenities include a dishwasher, fridge with ice maker, dual-fuel professional stove, walk-in pantry, and whole-house pressurized and purified water (drink from every tap!) as well as a reverse-osmosis faucet in the kitchen. There is also AC in the great room for the rare day when you might feel the heat inside this well-insulated home.
BATHROOMS have a hairdryer and basic toiletries of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and bars of soap. However, you’ll still want to bring your specialty shampoo if you aren’t a fan of Pantene!
Downstairs there’s a quiet DEN with full bath for TV viewing or reading, as well as a GAME ROOM with TV for playing cards, Rummikub, or liar’s dice (a family favorite known locally as dudo). Upstairs is a separate OFFICE with a 10-foot desk and two comfy lounge chairs for those who wish to work from home. In all that makes three rooms in addition to the large great room/kitchen to spread out and enjoy yourselves!
The La Terraza bedroom is breezy, south-facing bedroom exudes peace and serenity with its light furnishings and bedding. Double glass doors lead to the 2nd-floor terrace with its collection of potted olive trees and comfy chairs, and easy access to the pool below. A seating area just outside the bedroom is the perfect spot to have a glass of wine in the evening or listen to the birds in the morning. The room’s oversized ensuite bathroom has double sinks and a shower. There’s a large walk-in closet with built-in storage.
La Parroquia bedroom, one of the largest in the house, has a king bed with an intricately carved wooden headboard, Oaxacan artwork, antique Turkish kilim, multiple windows, ensuite shower-only bathroom and a comfortable sitting area with two arm chairs for enjoying a quiet cup of coffee in the morning. From this room with its two sets of French doors leading to small balconies facing the street, you’ll enjoy a view of San Miguel’s iconic pink Parroquia as well as a view of the interior courtyard with its sprawling pink bougainvillea.
El Principal is the home’s largest bedroom with a king-size iron canopy bed, oriental rug, a cozy corner for reading, and a lovely ensuite bathroom with double sinks, shower and a soaking tub (the home’s sole bathtub). From this room, you’ll enjoy a view of San Miguel’s iconic pink Parroquia from both the shower and bed (yes!) and from French doors leading to a small street-side balcony. There is also a window looking onto the interior courtyard and a large walk-in closet.
La Boveda is a spacious, sunny, south-facing room with a striking, handmade king canopy bed, built-in bookshelves and a cupboard alcove with mirror for getting ready if someone else is in the bathroom. French doors provide a colorful view of classic colonial Mexican architecture and access to the 2nd-floor terrace with potted olive trees and stairs leading to the pool below. The bright ensuite bathroom has double sinks and a shower. There is also a walk-in closet with ample storage.
La Gemela bedroom is a sweet bedroom with its handmade twin beds, taupe and navy bedding, mesquite bench and ample closet space is perfect for friends or children sharing a room. The ensuite bathroom has a single sink, shower and plenty of sunshine from the southern exposure. Double doors lead to the 2nd-floor terrace with its potted olive trees, seating areas, and easy access to the pool below.
Casa Colina Roja is located in prestigious Barrio La Aldea, a coveted, gated community with a mix of longtime Mexican residents and expats.
In the heart of Centro, just two blocks from the Rosewood Hotel and the city’s lush urban oasis, Parque Juarez, and four easy blocks from the jardin (central plaza), Aldea is a haven of tranquility and calm. With just five streets and no through access, it allows for easy parking (there is also a 2-car garage for your use) and unhurried taxi drop off.
Outside of its iconic white arch is a multitude of amazing restaurants and markets, including Tostévere, Cafe Rama, Hecho en México, Luna Bar, Raíces, Rústico, Tené at Hotel 1810, and Trattoria Romana. A convenience store with all the basics you need, a well-stocked pharmacy, and most importantly, some of San Miguel’s best taco carts are also just outside the gate.
It’s an easy walk to the sites you’ll wish to see—the Instituto Allende, the Mercado Sano Saturday Farmer’s Market, the Luna Bar at the Rosewood, and all the shops and restaurants you’ll want to visit.
Our wonderful housekeeper Luzma has worked with our family since 2009. She keeps an immaculate house and provides light cooking and laundry service.
Her hours are Monday- Friday from 9:00am-3:30pm; Saturdays until 12:30pm. Full meal prep and/or catering is not included but can easily be arranged for a fee.
Though it is not required, it is customary to leave a tip for Luzma at the end of your stay if you feel she has provided great service.
